July: The Heart of Summer

For the majority of June I work, so my first real time off normally happens in July. We did not do much this month, but I still feel like it was so busy that it flew by. 

This was Ellie first year in 4-H. She chose to do two projects, one over Chloe and one over her horses. I was so proud of her and her efforts in both projects. All I did was take the pictures and print them out for her, she did everything else. I am a little sad that she does not need me as much anymore.

We have been debating on separating the girls into separate rooms for some time. But we had finally had enough of their constant fighting and bickering over toys and space. So one weekend we just did it. Maddie was ready and so excited-below she is telling us where she wants her bed to go. Ellie was a bit more dramatic. She cried for most of the separation, but once it was all over with she loved her "new room."

The city of Charlestown opened their splash park and we went on one of the first days. I was surprised at how it was not too crowded. Ellie LOVED it, but Maddie sat by me and refused to even get her bathing suit on, much less get a little splash of water on her.

Ellie went to VBS at CIC. They had a Duck Dynasty theme, and since we love DD it was a perfect match. Ellie had so much fun each night. She brought Eme with her one night. On the last night there was a family event with food and activities. They also did a drawing, guess who won the cut-out of SI!

4-H week was as busy as always. I enjoy going and watching Shelby at her shows. It is crazy to think that in a few years it will be Ellie's shows. This was her first year showing goats. She is a mini and will need to be in 3rd grade to show on her own, but at the end of the goat show, all the mini's (or any kid in the arena) get an opportunity to show a goat and get a ribbon. She was so excited, but hot.

Meg got married in June and had a celebration this month. 

What July would be complete without shucking corn? This year we put out a garden. We had a pretty good amount of corn, tomatoes were awful, we had about three or four messes of green beens, several watermelons and pumpkins, and a few heads of broccoli. We have learned some new tricks this year and hope we can have an even more successful garden next year.
