Calm After the Storm

Today we have had summer storms off and on. We have not had much rain this summer, so it is much needed. In between clouds and lightning the girls wanted to come outside. 

Destin 2012

We took a vacation this year with Mom and Dad to Destin. This was the first time all of us have been there. It was a nice remote location; not a lot to do there besides the beach---which I am completely ok with. 

DAY ONE: Maddie is saying goodbye to Daisy and Betsy

We made a stop in Alabama so the kids could get a good nights sleep. Maddie was fascinated by the phone. I did not understand why until I realized that she has never really seen one. 

When we finally made it, the girls could not wait to visit the beach. Maddie even made a friend. Ironically the little girl was the same exact age, and by that I mean she had the same birthday and year as Maddie.

This pretty much sums up Maddie's feelings about the beach.

 We went on a Dolphin cruise. I will not be taking my kids back on a boat anytime in the near future.

 Ellie Loves the water...it was a chore to get her out.

On the way home, we took a 6 hour detour to Atlanta to the American Girl Doll store. These girls were so happy.

Dentist

 The girls slept really good last night. At 7:15 this morning Eme comes into our bedroom to tell us it was morning time. Ellie and Maddie frequently sleep in to 8:30/9:00 so neither of them were awake. Here they are on the way to the car. They all had to hold hands.

After we dropped Eme off at her Nan's, it was off to the dentist for the girls. Ellie started out so good, but last time she was awful. Sue and Shelby met us there. Shelby went first, then Ellie (who was better, but still screamed most of the time). Then Sue was able to squeeze Maddie in. She was really good at first, then she started to squirm when she was being flossed.

After the dentist and lunch, we brought Shelby back to the house to work on her 4-H projects. Here I am showing her some old pictures.

Sleepover

Today I took Shelby shopping for her 4-H project for costumer clothing. We went to St. Matthews Mall. Here is the shirts she picked out and loved. It is so hard to believe that 4-H time is already next week. This summer if flying by.

This evening Meg and Eme came over for dinner and to play. Ellie and Eme had come up with a plan while they were playing. When it was almost time for Meg and Eme to leave the girls asked if they could have a sleep over. The girls were so good until bed time.

Ellie has been getting bad about not wanting to sleep in her bed. She has been sleeping on the couch for weeks (that is not a battle we fight-since she is out of our bed). But last night they both were in Ellie's bed. Finally after Ellie had been wining for a while, Eme says: "Suck it up Ellie and go to sleep." I love that girl for standing her ground.

Week One

The first week of my summer vacation has come to an end. It has been a wonderful week with my girls. Here are a few pictures from today. I love the hot, but NOT the humidity. I wish it was a little less humid so we could spend some time outside.

4th of July

What an odd 4th. Normally we have a jammed packed day. But not this year. It was so hot and dry and nobody was doing fireworks (we nobody with any sense that is). So we had a pretty low key day. Mom and Dad offered to watch the girls while Bob and I had some alone time. We went to Louisville to do some shopping. I had bought Bob some shoes for father's day last month and he was not really liking them. So we went to return them. I love my girls, but it sure was nice to shop and not have to chase them down or play referee.

After we got back the girls and Mom and Dad were hungry, as were we. After a few mishaps we ended up at King Fish on the River. It was so hot and sticky, but we always love being down at the river.

L & D Reunited

Ellie has really been wanting to spend some time with Ally and Emy. Laura and I was finally able to adjust our schedules and the girls came over to play. The girls played inside for a while, then they moved outside to play before it got so hot.
