Baby Herald

Today we celebrated the upcoming arrival of Baby Boy Herald. Candace and Ryan are getting ready to welcome baby boy with no name, yet, into the world very soon. We had a nice lunch at Cafe 27 in New Albany. There were more kids than adults, but hey this is our life now.

Well That's A First

Never have seen the end of the rainbow, and this one was right out my window. Sadly there was not pot of gold. But still beautiful.

Also, I went back to the doctor today for more labs and my numbers have went back up, not normal yet, but moving that way. I am sure thanks to the large dose of steroids I am consuming. 

Back Again

Tuesday I had to go back for a normal blood work check for my platelets. I had been battling allergies for over a week, and I was pretty sure that my counts had dropped. I even remember telling one of my students that I would likely end up back in the hospital.

It took forever to get my results back and it was so low the first time it came back that they ran it a couple of time to make sure it was accurate. It was pretty low and back in the hospital I went.

I have no problems giving blood once a week at the doctor's office. The RN's there are amazing and do such a great job. But when I have been to the hospital the last two times they were awful. It took six sticks to get the blood they needed and they had to call an RN from labor and delivery to start my IV. She was amazing and got the job done, but the damage had already been done. Then only once in the five times they came back to get blood did they get blood on the first time. I counted in the two days that I had to stay there that I was stuck 16 times. My poor arms hurt so bad and look awful.

I was hoping this was going to be like last time, less than 24 hours and I was on the mend. But my body had other plans. When my labs came back on Wednesday morning, my numbers had gone up some, which was good, but when they were done again that afternoon they had dropped again. So my doctor said that I had to stay another night with more steroids going in. BOO. I was not happy about this.

Not only was I disappointed about the steroids, but I was going to have to miss something that I look forward to each school year. We have a banquet to celebrate all the students who earned an Academic Honors Diploma. These students get to invite their parents as well as a teacher that they would like to thank for helping in their success. Not only had I worked for months to put the entire event together, but I was also being honored by one of my students. I was completely heartbroken and so disappointed that I had to miss this. The two things that made it better was Mom and Dad bringing the girls to see me and the student sent me a picture of what she said at the banquet.

This morning my numbers came in up, so I was released and home by 1:00.

Oh and another note I want to remember; my AP Government students took their AP Exam on Tuesday. After the exam they came back to me to share that they felt so prepared and confident on the test. I am always so nervous and want to make sure that I was the best teacher for them. I cannot wait until July when the score are released to see how awesome they all did.

Mother's Day Weekend

This morning I woke up and saw on Facebook that Adrienne and Co was having their kids in the kitchen today. I called Mom to see if she wanted to go with the girls and I. The girls have been several times and really love working with the sweet stuff. Adrienne's really do a lot for this event. The girls each walked out with a cupcake for Mom, a cheeseball from Grandma, three donuts, a cookie, and marshmallows covered in chocolate and peanuts.  

After we were finished, the girls and I took Mom out to lunch. She chose Rockies. We opted to sit outside because it was beautiful. Lunch was yummy too. 

When we got back to Mom's, the girls gave me the boxes they made for me. I loved them. It is so nice of Mom to always make sure the girls are doing something for Bob and I.

Later the evening we went out to eat at Boom Bozz with my aunt and uncle. 

Today we were planning on going to church and then head to dinner to shop and eat for Mother's Day. But Ellie woke up with a pretty high fever. Her allergies have really been getting the best of her this weekend. So after a few hours her fever broke, and she was ready to go. Me on the other hand was not feeling well, my allergies was kicking me as well. So we made a quick trip to Louisville because I had some things that I needed to pick up. We stopped by Bob's mom's to wish her a happy mother's day, and I ended up falling asleep on the couch. 

We all were exhausted and felt yucky--so bedtime came really early for us. 

Ellie's First Field Trip

Ellie had her first field trip of her school days today. She and her kindergarten class went to the Science Center in Louisville. The idea of chaperoning a elementary field trip causes me to go into a panic, and I would seriously have to be medicated before I go--no really it would stress me out that much. But I am so glad that Ellie has always parents of kids in her class. She is an ideal class, and I could not ask for anything better experience this year. 

So it made me so happy when I got this surprise message with these cute little photos from the mom that Ellie was paired with. I love seeing her so happy.

At school today, one of my students that graduated last year came by for a visit during my prep. I sure do miss many of the students from last year. It was a nice visit, and I am so happy to see her doing so well.  

Oh and I made it, no more extended day!!!!

Thumb Day

My Dual Credit English 12 students do so much work over the entire year. I know that by the time they leave me, they are more than prepared for college and this year most of my students will receive college credit when they complete my class. 

At the end of the year, I tried to let them do more fun writing. Today was thumb day. Students were given finger paint and was asked to create a book explaining what they wanted to do "thumb day." We all had so much fun, and they are all good humored and love the finger paint. 

Mom took Ellie to dance for me, this is the last Monday for extended day--thank goodness, Friday cannot get here soon enough. I had Mom drop Maddie off to me before she left town. Maddie came and hung out in my class for about 30 minutes. She loved all the attention, and one of my students made the mistake of asking her if she liked Frozen. Ugh--I had the whole class signing "Let it Go."

Congrats Amy

Today we loaded up and headed to Indy to celebrate Amy's graduation from Graduate school and her final step to becoming a nurse practitioner. We were able to hang around the house a bit and get some things done before heading up. The girls have loved playing outside, and it is hard to get them to come in.

After a minor pit stop in Edinburg, we arrived at their home. The weather was perfect and her husband did a great job organizing everything.

I am so proud of her. I can't wait to go back up in a few weeks we go to my cousin's wedding. 

White Belt

So one week into Karate and this girl still loves it. This is her forth day and she tested for her white belt today. She had to learn five stances to get her belt. I knew that she would be close but was not sure if she would get it today. 

But all smiles after she came out with her belt on.

She has set a goal to earn her yellow belt by the end of summer.

Meg and I met some of the teachers from work at Come Back Inn for a really yummy dinner before heading to Lakeside Reflections to chaperone prom. 

Even though we were home hours before it ended, we still had a great time seeing all the students looking their absolute best. This is such a great night that I look forward to each year. Definitely one of the perks of being a teacher.
